With an awards ceremony and a sponsorship event on their busy schedules, we are exceptionally proud of our Year 8s this week for their dedicated commitment to good causes. Their altruistic approach and the desire to make a difference to the world around them exemplifies the values integral to the Holme Grange way. We are pleased to celebrate them as role models within our community and to recognise the challenges they have overcome in pursuit of their fundraising goals.
Harry Peksa (Year 8) has achieved a series of impressive targets, most recently being shortlisted by the BBC Berkshire Make A Difference Awards on Thursday 24th September for the ‘Young Hero’ category. Harry, who has raised well over £45,000 for wildlife charities and other good causes since he was six years old, has completed a series of demanding challenges, including a return cycle ride between Land’s End and John O’Groats, and a triathlon in Snowdonia to provide outdoor clothing for less privileged children at 14 schools.
Harry explained that he had been inspired to help after learning that hedgehogs, one of his favourite animals, were declining in the UK. “After visiting Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital and seeing the work they do, I wanted to support them.” he said.
Continuing the wildlife theme and wanting to invest in nature within the school environment, Harry and seven of his Year 8 friends are committing to a Dawn ‘til Dusk sponsored challenge, aiming to complete 100 laps around Dinton Pastures on Saturday 26th September through walking, running and cycling. Why 100? This year marks Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, and as admirers of his lifelong dedication to animals and the natural world, the pupils felt 100 laps would be a fitting target.
You can sponsor the group here as they raise money for two sheep and a climbing frame for the goats at the Holme Grange School farm.
