Year 7 Build Friendships and Confidence at Calshot

28th Sep 2026

Year 7 pupils spent three days at Calshot Activities Centre in Hampshire, taking on new challenges and getting to know one another beyond the classroom.

From kayaking and climbing to skiing, crate stacking and an engineering challenge, the trip gave pupils opportunities to work together, encourage one another and try something new. There was also time to explore the beach and enjoy being together as a year group.

For some pupils, September marks the start of a new school. Others have been part of Holme Grange for years. Calshot brings them together at the beginning of Senior School, helping existing friendships grow while new connections form. Their form tutors and Ms Judith Curtis, Assistant Head Lower School, joined them throughout the trip, getting to know pupils through shared experiences.

Ms Curtis said: “Our annual Calshot trip is an important part of the Year 7 induction programme. Over three days, pupils have fun, form friendships and grow in confidence. Spending that time together also helps us build strong relationships for their first year in Senior School and beyond.”

The activities may be what pupils remember first, but the friendships and confidence they bring home will stay with them much longer.
