Holme Grange School is a leading educational institution with a long-standing commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness. The school integrates sustainable practices into its infrastructure, daily operations and curriculum, ensuring that pupils develop a strong understanding of environmental issues. Holme Grange also actively engages with the local community to drive positive change and contribute to a more sustainable global future.
Our newer buildings incorporate sustainable technology, and our farm and polytunnels support sustainable food production. At this critical stage in our planet’s history, we recognise the importance of embedding environmental considerations into the heart of our school culture. By taking decisive action now, we aim to play our part in addressing the challenges of global climate change.
In 2023, Holme Grange was proud to be named the winner of the ISA Award for Excellence in Sustainability, recognising our ongoing efforts and commitment to environmental education and practices.
In 2024, we hosted SustainFest, a celebration of sustainability initiatives and achievements, showcasing the innovative efforts of our pupils and staff in driving environmental awareness and action.
Separately, in partnership with Thomas Franks, Holme Grange produced 10,000 meals under the “Surplus to Purpose” initiative. Using food that would have otherwise gone to waste, this initiative made a meaningful contribution to local charities and highlighted the importance of reducing food waste.
We also introduced Climate and Sustainability Awards for pupils in Pre-Prep and Prep, recognising their active engagement in environmental projects and encouraging them to take on leadership roles in sustainability.
Holme Grange hosted MockCOP, an inter-school event where pupils collaborated with visiting schools to discuss and propose innovative solutions to pressing climate challenges.
These events, alongside our other initiatives, have cemented Holme Grange’s role as a leader in sustainability and environmental awareness.
