Our recent Year 7 Stepping Up Morning gave Year 6 pupils an exciting and insightful introduction to life in the Senior School, marking their first step towards becoming senior school pupils.
Throughout the morning, pupils experienced what a typical day in Year 7 might look like. They had the opportunity to meet senior school teachers and learn more about life in the Senior School, including the wide range of subjects available. From specialist options such as Animal Care to the many trips and enrichment opportunities on offer, pupils discovered how learning in the Senior School is designed to build confidence, curiosity and teamwork.
One of the highlights of the morning was a treasure hunt around the Senior School grounds and buildings. Working alongside a helpful Year 8 pupil, Year 6 were able to explore key areas of the school while asking questions and gaining first hand insight into senior school life from a current pupil perspective.
The morning also included a Design and Technology challenge where pupils worked in teams to design and create their own slingshots. This practical activity encouraged collaboration, problem solving and creativity, ending with a friendly competition to see which team could launch their ball the furthest.
In Science, pupils took part in a series of engaging experiments where different substances were mixed to create reactions. Before each experiment, pupils were encouraged to think critically about what might happen and why, developing their scientific reasoning skills in a fun and hands on way.
Overall, the Stepping Up Morning offered an engaging and enjoyable glimpse into Senior School life. It was a valuable opportunity for pupils to build confidence, ask questions and begin to imagine themselves as part of our Senior School community.
