Year 1 pupils enjoyed an immersive and memorable visit to Milestones Museum, bringing their learning about the Victorian era vividly to life. The trip formed part of the pupils’ history studies and provided a valuable opportunity to step beyond the classroom and experience the past in a meaningful, hands-on way.
The Victorian programme at Milestones Museum is one of the museum’s popular living history sessions and pupils fully embraced the experience. Dressed in authentic Victorian costumes, Year 1 explored the historic streets and buildings, gaining a real sense of what daily life was like during the Victorian period. From visiting traditional shops to discovering how families lived and worked, pupils were encouraged to observe, ask questions and make connections with their classroom learning.
A highlight of the day was taking part in a Victorian-style school lesson in the original Board School room. Pupils experienced first-hand how education differed in the past, helping them to develop a deeper understanding of how schooling has changed over time.
Trips such as this reflect our commitment to enriching the curriculum through experiential learning. By engaging pupils in interactive and age-appropriate experiences, we aim to spark curiosity, deepen understanding and foster a lifelong love of learning. Year 1 returned to school full of enthusiasm, with plenty of stories to share and a stronger understanding of life in Victorian times.
