Little Grange (Nursery) & Reception
The Holme Grange curriculum in these years is based on the revised Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework (Sept 2021). This focuses on the seven areas of learning covered by the early learning goals:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design.
Sport, ICT and Music are taught to all pupils by specialist teachers. Art and Drama are taught by specialist teachers from Reception upwards.
Each class has a weekly library session and your child will have 1:1 reading sessions between 3 and 5 times a week. Each pupil has a reading record where parents and teachers can work together to extend skills learned at school.
Years 1 & 2
In these year groups, we develop all the learning goals from Little Grange and Reception into specific subjects. We deliver the teaching of some subjects through a cross-curricular approach. Teachers work with pupils to identify several individual targets to work towards. Targets relate both to academic skills and personal development.
French classes begin from Year 2 upwards and this subject is taught by a specialist teacher.
Homework is designed to support, reinforce and extend the learning that takes place in school. It is intended to be achievable yet stretching. In addition, there is a project-based or research activity to complete during the holidays linked to topics due to be studied in the next term.
