At Holme Grange School, we are committed to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of our children. This is embodied through our mission statement, our values, learning habits and our ethos. We aim to prepare them to take a full role in society as confident individuals and upright citizens.
This is modelled at all levels of the school community through mutual respect and an appreciation of diversity. Relevant issues are explored through the curriculum, both in planned ways and through incidental opportunities. The principles of SMSC run through all aspects of school life, including casual interactions, and through many areas of policy and practice, including the management of behaviour, promotion of equalities, and having a wide-ranging and exciting curriculum which inspires children to find out more about the world in all its variety. Teaching methodologies that give value to peer discussion and collaborative working practices encapsulate the skills that pupils will need to be successful and productive in the wider society.

Holme Grange school plays an important role in shaping the values of our pupils which they will carry through later life. By promoting these shared values, we can help prepare pupils for life in a modern and diverse Britain and help them understand how they can play a positive role in shaping cohesive and integrated communities. Providing an opportunity and safe space for pupils to develop and reflect on their beliefs will also mean they have an awareness of the importance of inclusivity and tolerance.
Spiritual development is shown by their:
- beliefs, religious or otherwise, which inform their perspective on life and their interest in and respect for different people’s feelings and values
