Today, 20th September, Holme Grange School was very proud to host the regional semi-finals of the Eurotalk Junior Language Challenge. Twenty one children from schools in the south east of England came to take part including 5 of our own Holme Grange children, Sid, Jamie, Aadi, Hollie and Angel.
The challenge is aimed at pupils under 10 years old and as well as encouraging them to learn languages, the company, Eurotalk, donates the cost of the challenge to a charity called “onebillion” which supplies classrooms equipped with iPads and other educational devices to schools in Africa.
The pupils started the challenge back in March when they started learning Romanian in the first round. They then spent the summer holidays learning Korean ready for the semi-final today. It was a very tense, nail-biting competition but we are thrilled that both Sid and Angel managed to get through to the final!
Their task now is to learn Swahili, ready for the grand final at The Languages Show at Olympia, London on Friday 14th October.
We are extremely proud of all our linguists who have shown great Risk Taking and Resilience in working at this challenge and we wish Sid and Angel good luck in the final. “Kila la Kheri” (Good luck in Swahili!)
