Holme Grange Hosts and Wins U11 Girls’ Football Festival

Holme Grange was delighted to welcome schools from across the Wokingham area for the Wokingham Schools’ U11 Girls’ Football Festival, bringing together young players for an afternoon of competition, skill development and, most importantly, enjoyment of the game.

Teams from Holme Grange, Robert Piggott, St Paul’s, South Lake, Alder Grove, Hillside, Floreat Montague, Westende Junior, Loddon, Grazeley, Hawkedon, Shinfield St Mary’s and St Nicholas took part in the festival, with matches played across the Holme Grange pitches.

Alongside the competitive fixtures, coaches Joe and Arran from Skillz School ran a range of football challenges, games and skills-based activities on the training pitch, giving pupils plenty of opportunities to develop their technique, try something new and play alongside children from other schools.

It proved to be an especially memorable afternoon for the Holme Grange U11 girls, who finished the festival as winners and will now represent Wokingham District at the County Competition in January 2027.

Lauren Futcher, teacher and member of the sports team at Holme Grange, said:

“It was fantastic to see so many girls from different schools enjoying football together and playing with such confidence and enthusiasm. Hosting the festival gave us the opportunity not only to provide competitive sport, but also to create an environment where every girl could get involved, develop her skills and enjoy being part of a team.

“We are incredibly proud of our Holme Grange girls. They worked hard for one another, played some excellent football and thoroughly deserved their success. To now have the opportunity to represent Wokingham at the County Competition is a wonderful achievement for them.”

The festival reflects Holme Grange’s wider commitment to ensuring pupils have positive and meaningful sporting experiences, whether they are competing at a high level or simply discovering a sport they enjoy. The School’s approach places an emphasis on participation, enjoyment and developing a lifelong enthusiasm for being active.

A huge thank you to all the schools who joined us, to Skillz School for supporting the afternoon and to everyone who helped make the festival such a positive celebration of girls’ football.

Congratulations to our U11 girls – and we look forward to following their progress at the County Competition in January.
