Girls at Holme Grange have taken part in one of the first initiatives of our new partnership with FutureGen Sport, as the school continues to expand opportunities for girls to discover, enjoy and develop their rugby.
The non-contact Girls’ Rugby Taster Session welcomed pupils from Years 6, 7 and 8, giving girls of all abilities the opportunity to experience the sport in a fun, supportive and inclusive environment. Whether picking up a rugby ball for the first time or building on previous experience, the session focused on developing skills, confidence and, most importantly, enjoyment of the game.
The session marks the beginning of an exciting partnership between Holme Grange and FutureGen Sport, an organisation dedicated to increasing participation in girls’ rugby through schools, clubs and local communities.
Mrs Fuller, Director of Girls’ Sport at Holme Grange, said:
“I am delighted to be partnering with FutureGen Sport to help more girls discover and enjoy the brilliant game of rugby. This partnership is about creating opportunities, building confidence and ensuring every girl has the chance to experience the sense of belonging, friendship and enjoyment that sport can provide.”
The partnership will support Holme Grange in developing girls’ rugby through a range of accessible and inclusive opportunities, including taster sessions, after-school clubs and competitive tournaments. It will also help to strengthen connections between the school, local clubs and the wider rugby community.
A key part of the collaboration is creating opportunities and pathways for girls at every level, whether they simply want to enjoy playing with friends or are interested in developing their rugby further through local clubs and competitive opportunities.
Mrs Fuller added:
“When girls feel supported and successful, they are far more likely to continue participating in sport, develop new skills and gain valuable life lessons that extend well beyond the rugby pitch. You will see this confidence shine through in all areas of school life.”
As the partnership develops, Holme Grange hopes to inspire even more girls to get involved in rugby and experience the many benefits that participation in sport can bring. By creating lasting connections between the school, local clubs and the wider rugby community, the partnership aims to help more girls remain active and engaged in sport for years to come.
