Holme Grange School welcomed girls from local primary schools for the FutureGen Year 5 and 6 Girls’ Rugby Festival, delivered in partnership with FutureGen Sport.
The festival brought together all Year 5 and 6 girls from Holme Grange alongside pupils from Evendons Primary School and Crowthorne Church of England Primary School, giving girls of all abilities the opportunity to experience rugby in a fun, supportive and inclusive environment.
Led by Rebecca Fuller, Director of Girls’ Sport at Holme Grange, alongside coaches from FutureGen Sport, the afternoon focused on much more than learning the fundamentals of rugby. Through a range of activities and small-sided games, the girls developed confidence, teamwork and communication while discovering what the sport has to offer.
Importantly, the festival was designed for everyone, including those picking up a rugby ball for the very first time. With the emphasis firmly on participation and enjoyment rather than performance, every girl had the opportunity to get involved, try something new and experience success.
Parents and carers were invited to join the final part of the afternoon, watching as the girls put their newly developed skills into practice during a series of small-sided games.
Rebecca Fuller, Director of Girls’ Sport at Holme Grange School, said:
“Events such as this festival are incredibly important because they help young girls see that rugby is a sport for everyone. Whether they are trying rugby for the first time or already play regularly, we want every participant to leave feeling more confident, more empowered and excited to continue their sporting journey.”
Mrs Fuller added:
“One of the things we are most proud of at Holme Grange is being able to share our sporting opportunities with the wider community. It was fantastic to welcome girls from local schools, allowing them to experience rugby in a fun, supportive environment while building friendships and connections through sport.”
The festival marked another exciting step in developing girls’ rugby at Holme Grange and creating opportunities for more young people across the local community to discover the confidence, friendships and enjoyment that team sport can bring.
