Applying to Holme Grange

At Holme Grange, we welcome families to join us at various entry points across the school. Whether you’re considering a place in our Little Grange Nursery, Pre-Prep, Prep, or Senior School, this page will guide you through the admissions process for each stage.

Little Grange Admissions

Children can join Little Grange as soon as they turn 2, offering them an early start to their educational journey in a nurturing environment.

Flexible Provision

• A minimum attendance of 2 full days is required.
• Both all-year-round and term-time-only options are available to suit family needs.
• Open from 7:30am to 6pm, 50 weeks a year, ensuring reliable care throughout the year.

Children can join at any point during the year, subject to availability. While we recommend children be toilet trained before starting, our team is here to support their transition into school life.

Reception Transition

At Holme Grange, we ensure a smooth and supportive transition for children joining Reception, helping them feel confident and excited about this new stage in their educational journey.

Transition Sessions

Children from Little Grange are invited to participate in two sessions in the Reception classroom, engaging in activities alongside current Reception pupils. This provides an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the new environment and routines.

Preschool/Nursery Visits

To better understand each child’s individual needs, a member of the Reception teaching staff visits the child’s current pre-school or nursery. This allows them to observe the child in a familiar setting and discuss their progress and well-being with staff.

Meet the Teacher

In July, Reception staff host a ‘Meet the Teacher’ event for parents. This informal meeting offers parents a chance to get to know their child’s teacher and learn more about the Reception experience.

Settling-In Support

During the first two weeks of the Autumn term, the Head of Pre-Prep will personally call parents of all new children to discuss how their child is settling in and address any questions or concerns.

This thoughtful approach ensures every child and family feels supported during the transition to Reception at Holme Grange.

Year 1 and 2

For entry to Year 1 or Year 2, pupils will spend a day with their current year group and are given an informal assessment to establish their level of ability and to allow us to place them in the most appropriate form. This assessment takes the form of discussion, and non-verbal reasoning assessments.

Pupils can enter the School at any time during the school year if there is a place available.

If a child has a learning difficulty, a further special needs specialist may be involved. A report will be required from the current school.

Prep – Year 3 to 6

For entry to Year 3 to Year 6, pupils will spend a day with their current year group and are given an informal assessment to establish their level of ability and to allow us to place them in the most appropriate form. Senior School  – Year 7 to 11

For Students New to our Senior School

We hold our Senior School Admissions Day annually in the November before entry.  On the day we ask pupils to complete a one hour computer based test in verbal and non-verbal reasoning and Maths. This is followed by an English writing task. The rest of the day is spent completing a number of indoor and outdoor exercises and group activities.
