Year 3 – Beech, Chestnut and Sycamore
In the Prep School it soon becomes apparent that the opportunities are endless!
Transition into the Prep School is managed to ensure a seamless move. Children are given the opportunity in Year 2 to spend some time in the Y3 class during the summer term as part of the transition programme.
Life in Year 3 is busy and exciting. Pupils are presented with a multitude of opportunities and are encouraged to develop their independence so that they can make the most of these. In the busy Year 3 schedule there is a wealth of opportunity for pupils to discover and develop their unique gifts. Happiness and confidence are key. If children are happy and confident in themselves, they will learn in a happy and confident way. Quite simply, we believe that children must firstly be given the chance truly to experience childhood in all its joy, and that education naturally follows. It is this that develops a fully-rounded person.
A wide and varied curriculum is taught and this is enhanced by numerous out of school visits throughout the year. Whilst the majority of the curriculum is taught by the class teacher and based within the classroom, the children in Year 3 are taught by specialist teachers for Physical Education, Music, I.C.T. , Art and Design, Drama , Design Technology and French. We also have a weekly lesson in the library.
Weekly sports fixtures are the highlight for the children where every child is given the opportunity to represent their school.
In Year 3 all children are taught to play the violin as part of their class music tuition, very quickly picking up the skills which allows them to play together as a group and perform with a very pleasing sound.
Above all, our overriding concerns are for your child’s happiness and ensuring they achieve their full potential. Look out for the Year 3 Blog which can be found at www.holmegrange.net – this gives a brief glimpse of life in Year 3.
