Choral Speaking Competition - Thursday 15th October 2009

15 October 2009

The inaugural Holme Grange Choral Speaking Competition was held  on Thursday 15th October and was well attended by parents and staff. The entries were judged by a panel comprising of Claire Robinson - Headteacher, Tim Head - Housemaster and Master of English at Wellington College and Mrs Heather Jenvey.

Choral speaking is the art of using voices in unison (all) or part (small group) to produce a piece of poetry or prose that highlights, through performance, the images and the mood that the writer of the piece envisaged.

Children from Little Grange Nursery through to Year 8 participated by performing a piece of poetry of their choice, some even wrote their own poem for the event. There were over 50 entries in the form of whole class groups, individual or smaller groups.

The judges were impressed by the "high standard" of entries and prizes were awarded to catergory winners, with all individual entries receiving a certificate of achievement.
