A guide to local senior school entry procedures

Listed here are some local senior school entry procedures at Year 9 (13+). Most schools carry this information on their websites, or as a general rule you can contact the relevant admissions departments who will be happy to help you:

WELLINGTON COLLEGE – Co Ed. Following registration pupils are invited to attend the College for Pre Testing in the Autumn term of Y7. Places are offered following the results of these tests and are subject to CE.

BRADFIELD COLLEGE – Co Ed. Payment of registration fee secures a provisional place. Prospective pupils are offered an interview with the Head and if successful, will receive an offer of a confirmed place (subject to CE).

BEARWOOD COLLEGE - Co Ed. Registration and then places offered after academic assessment and interview with the Headmaster. Places are offered from February of the Year of entry. Year 8 pupils taking CE exams at their current school will be expected to reach a good standard but will still be required to sit the Bearwood College academic assessment, for setting purposes.

PANGBOURNE COLLEGE - Co Ed. Registration reserves a provisional place, a firm offer is received following interview (subject to CE).

THE READING SCHOOL (Reading Boys). Applications must be made to Reading School and the Local Authority, application dates change yearly and are available on the school website. Places are offered to the top 12 ranking applicants on completion of the school entry exam in January of the Year of entry.

LEIGHTON PARK SCHOOL – Co Ed. All pupils applying for entry into Year 9 sit the school entrance tests which comprise English, Maths and Non-verbal Reasoning, and an interview. Children generally take these in the January preceding their entry in the September.

SHERFIELD SCHOOL - Co Ed. Registration at any time prior to Y9. Applicants sit the school exam and undergo assessment as part of their prospective year group. Places are offered following a successful assessment. No CE.

LICENSED VICTUALLERS - Co Ed. A child's name is entered on the provisional entry list for a given year upon receipt of a completed application form and payment of a non-returnable registration fee. There is no entrance examination. Reports from previous schools are sought in the Autumn Term prior to entry or upon application if later. Pupils will also be interviewed by senior members of staff. LVS and Holme Grange are in agreement that places offered at Year 7 can be deferred for entry at Year 9.

ST.GEORGE’S ASCOT – Girls. Registration followed by selective examination. This usually takes the form of Common Entrance at 13+ held in both February and June for entry in the following September.

LORD WANDSWORTH COLLEGE - Co Ed. Registration and pre test in Year 6,places are offered on the basis of the test results and school report, subject to CE

ETON COLLEGE - Boys. Registration by age 10 ˝ years. Assessment in Year 6 involves interview, reasoning test and report from current school. Places are offered at age 11 subject to CE.

The Headteacher works constantly to ensure good links exist between all local Public Schools and ourselves. They listen carefully to our comments when considering a child’s application and exam scores. If you select a school for your child that we do not know then we will pay a visit so that we are in a better position to advise you.
