Year 6 visited the National Gallery in London. Not only was this a valuable educational experience, but it is also an essential element of the National Curriculum to view art at first hand.
A lecturer from the Education Department at the Gallery gave a talk exploring with pupils the ideas and meaning behind various works of art. Pupils were given the opportunity to ask and answer questions relating to the content, subject, characters and symbols of a selection of paintings.
A great deal of information is gleaned from a visit to the Gallery in this way and it helps pupils to appreciate the importance of art in history and society today. |
