A day in Henley for Year 4 was based around the River and Rowing Museum. Our Museum guide for the day started by taking us on a river walk. First we looked at an island in the middle of the Thames whose residents had to row a boat to reach the river bank. Next we studied Cold Stream, a tributary of the Thames, and observed locks in action. We saw a salmon tunnel at one of the locks which allows the fish to swim up and down the river avoiding the locks.
On the way to the Museum, we saw the boat which Steven Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent had used to win the Gold Medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Inside the Museum, we undertook various tasks including working out how much water one person uses in a day. |
