We were taught songs with actions, played musical games, heard stories, saw a variety of authentic clothing and were introduced to an assortment of traditional African instruments. Eight pupils from Years 7 and 8 were selected to act as helpers and their principal rôle was to perform in a five part percussion piece with each part needing a different rhythmic pattern. The ninety minute workshop whizzed by and everyone left with more knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the different components of this vibrant music. |
