To enhance Year 4's study of Roman Britain, we visited St Albans in Hertfordshire, formally the Roman City of Verulamium.
Firstly, we walked around the ancient Roman theatre and then to the remains of a Roman villa.
The Verulamium Museum houses one of the best mosaic floors that has been excavated and this provoked much interest, as did the hypocaust under floor heating system. After a picnic lunch at the Inn on the Park, the children were treated to a handling session of Roman artefacts and encouraged to dress up in costume.
A fun worksheet enabled all the children to fully enjoy the permanent exhibition.
A tiring but thoroughly enjoyable day out was had by all. Many thanks to the parent helpers, your invaluable support is appreciated. |
