A visit to the supermarket may be a regular event for most families but a Wokingham supermarket kindly treated the two Reception classes to a behind-the-scenes tour of the store. After a look around the shop area the children were allowed into the normally hidden areas. The smell of the bakery reminded everybody that lunch was still some time off but there was plenty more to see before returning to School. The manager explained the functions of the stockrooms, loading bay and how the food reaches the supermarket shelves. The refrigerated room and freezer room proved of particular interest, although the –18ºC of the latter made for a brief visit to that particular zone!
Appropriately the visit ended in the staff training room, the time having reinforced Reception's classroom work on the food chain. The children were grateful to the store manager and were kindly all given a bag containing healthy foods. |
