AUTUMN 2006

Victorian Values

Year 1 children, staff and parents enjoyed dressing up in Victorian clothes for their trip to an old fashioned schoolroom. We journeyed back over 100 years on an outing to Reading Museum, where we found a Victorian schoolroom and a room full of toys from the period. The visit included over an hour in the Museum’s Victorian classroom with a very strict Victorian teacher. We also tried writing using ink pens, which proved quite tricky, and saw how the cane and the dunce’s hat were used as forms of punishment!

The children also got the chance to play with some of the old toys and enjoyed playing a Victorian parlour game. A fun day was had by children and adults alike!
