Physical and human geography formed the focus of the second Year 8 Geography Field Trip to Dorset. First stop was the New Forest Museum, at Lyndhurst, where we examined the history and management of the Forest and had an informative talk about the impact on the area of the newly created New Forest National Park.
The PGL Centre at Osmington Bay, east of Weymouth, was our destination and base for three nights. The first evening included activities which demanded lateral thinking while encouraging team work.
On Saturday a study of the River Wey, from source to mouth, provided the focus for the physical geography element of the weekend. Measurements were taken and observations recorded at several points along the course of the Wey, comparing it with a 'textbook river'. After a long morning and late lunch, quad biking and Aeroball provided attractions contrasting to the geographic and scientific disciplines of the morning. |
