Year 5 - History Trip to the Isle of Wight

Year 5’s history trip to the Isle of Wight built on the successes of previous visits. We had been studying the Victorians and spent four glorious, sunny May days on the island. The children had a great time and were kept very busy visiting Osborne House, the home of Queen Victoria; walking around the ruins of Carisbrooke Castle; finding out about dinosaur life on the island at Dinosaur Isle; learning about lemurs and white tigers at the Isle of Wight Zoo and enjoying the experience of travelling on the Steam Railway!

The evenings were full of entertainment too, with a clever, amusing magician and a Victorian evening with the children enacting characters from the era. We even had time to run and burn off more energy on the beach. The children enjoyed the experience of being away from home and staying in a hotel, choosing their meals and working as a team with their room mates.

Much information had been amassed in work books, ready for history projects back at School, and after an exhausting, memorable four days, we returned safely, with bronzed, happy faces, full of interesting stories to tell the parents and children at Holme Grange.
