'Trolls', with music and lyrics written by Peter Skellern, featured a cast of almost 70 children drawn from Years 5-8. The Cast's long hours of rehearsals were rewarded by splendid performances that delighted audiences over three nights at the end of the Spring Term. The Band, which comprised pupils and music teachers, provided excellent arrangements of Mr Skellern's compositions to accompany the singing on stage.
The story takes place in a village in Govia which lies in the dark depths of Europe, on the borders of Trolvania and Elfistan.
The Trolls have gathered to celebrate the Midsummer Feast. There is also to be a wedding. King Smee is to marry Bleeta, the daughter of Lord and Lady Drong. Unfortunately Bleeta loves Droople, the son of General and Lady Screed.
As the ceremony is under way a terrible event takes place. A star shoots through the sky and lands in the village. There is pandemonium! Trolls scatter. The star just sits there shining!
Out leaps Snick the Evil Goblin. He has been locked in the star for many centuries… but now he is free! He declares himself the new King and grabs Bleeta and runs off into the wood. The army are sent after him but they soon return defeated. Snick's powers are formidable.
However Droople steps into centre stage and becomes the hero of the hour. He offers to capture the goblin, but on one condition, he must marry Bleeta. Will he succeed in his awesome task and gain the hand of Bleeta? |
